But for the misfortune of being caught by "Wilbour" Wright, (the Teacher in the photo) getting on the Coach to go to Barrow, playing for Wigan RUFC (The Old Boys) Colts XV,when I should have been down at Robin Park playing for the School....I'd cried off fiegning injury during the week, I would have been on this photo. He banned me for the remainder of the season. Sorry to have missed the photo opportunity, but back then a "late stay" at Barrow was like going to Ibiza (the Island, not he bar in King Street !) It was about as exotic as things got in winter of 1969 and an chance not to be missed, believe me. The irony was that the game down at Robin Park was called off due a waterlogged pitch and I wouldn't have played anyway. Wilbur and Co. were walking back into town from the Grammar School that morning when I was spotted.Looking at the photo Alex Brodie seems to be a Bradley Wiggins look alike. Hope you Guys are stil all with us and prospering. Lol Cockie
What ever happened to Alex Brodie My Husband often talkes about him?.
I played in thhis team (I'm sandwiched between John Hilton and Dave Bibby in photo) and have kept the school mag which records our results (5 wins and 5 defeats). John Hilton was the son of Jack Hilton who played for Wigan RL. Not surprisingly with that pedigree John like his dad was an elusive winger and captained some of the school rugby teams in the earlier years. However when he discovered in the fourth year that captains had to go on stage in assembley and give a report he managed to side step that responsibility and pass it on to me!.
G Carter not Garter.
