Nice picture. Any idea what year Fred?

Comment by: fred foster on 14th August 2011 at 16:22

I think the year would have been 1938 as I went to the Grammar School in 1942 and this was taken 3 years previously

John
the other half of this class is on another photo under Highfield Junior School and it says the year is 1937

Hi Fred,Reg Senior, did he play rugby league later on in life for Swinton.

Comment by: frank on 15th August 2011 at 21:05

Would that be Sir James Cyril Anderton's sister.

Margaret is the sister of Sir James. Last I heard she was in a rest home with failing health. As far as Reg is concerned, I dont recall him playing rugby, but I could be mistaken. Reg, his father and brother Joe were a successful firm of window cleaners in the Wigan town centre for many years

Yes Reg did play for Swinton they sighned him from St Helens.

Eileen Stockley went on to marry Harold Gaskell and to become headteacher at Highfield Primary when she succeeded Bill Spencer. Eric Taylor became a solicitor with his own practice in Manchester and for a time had the position of Recorder. Eric's dad Sydney was a one time Mayor of Wigan. Norman Molyneux emigrated to California.

I remember Mrs Gaskell as the Head when I was there in the mid sixties. It was a lovely school
