Whether or not its of the Grammar School team or one of Wigan CC's Junior teams, I'm not sure, but its almost certainly taken outside the old clubhouse on Bull Hey.

I was just guessing it was the Grammar School, as the guy who lived in the house it came from went to the WGS. I was hoping someone would recognise the man in the photo.

It seems like it was taken in my era. 1942-47. The master is IW Johnson, the music and maths teacher.I recognize some of the boys, among them, Paul Singleton, Peter Smith,a lad called Boardman on the back row. Ken Parkinson as well.I think Ray Wilkinson is on it too. What was the mans name who gave it to you Ron?

Hi Fred it was from Bill Johnson who went on to be awarded the MBE and was Assistant Chief Engineer for Lancashire County Council. He was associated with building most of the motorways around this region. Did you know him? I don't know if he is on the photograph or not?

IW Johnson was his dad. I Kids can be dont see him but I I cant see Bill but I could be wrong. Bills father was known as Curly because of his shortage of hair Kids can be cruel!! Is he still about? He was a year in front of me at school

Hi Fred I think he has recently gone into a Nursing Home.

I remember IW Johnson, his blackboard writing was exceptional, precise, unbelievably neat and stylish - today you'd say a computer produced it. The guy, 3rd in from left on front row is a dead ringer for the great Lancashire and England cricketer Cyril Washbrook in my opinion.
