Teacher: Miss Simm
Surely this can't be the same Miss Simm who was there in the 1950's can it?
Ron:
The teacher in the photo is related to you, she is one of your gg-uncle Gilbert Simm's 3 daughters. Either Margaret Simm 1882-1957, Clara Simm 1883-1958 or Violet Simm 1885-1974.
Ron i went to highfield and i was in Mrs Simm class in 1956 so i think it is the same Mrs Simm she must have been in late fifties
Hi Ian, we really must get together you have a lot of information that I haven't... Well I never. She taught me when I first went to Highfield. I think that would be about 1954? I moved to Highfield school from Warrington Lane when we moved up to Pemberton. My dad was in the army with George Elliot so getting into the school, I pressume was no problem. Does anyone know which Simm she is? I bet, Mr Highfield aka. Fred Foster will know?
Just looked at the photo again. If she is one of the daughters she would be in her middle 30's when this picture was taken and she only looks about 20? When she taught me in the early 1950's she didn't strike me as being that old i.e. 70+? So is it the same Miss Simm??????
Just spoken to Fred who told me that the Miss Simm in the photograph is a different Miss Simm to the one who taught in the 1950's. Problem Solved thanks to Fred<g>
Ron:
A get together is well over due mate :-) I think all 3 Simm daughters went into teaching and none of them married.

Hi Ian, yes Fred said that all 3 sisters were teachers and none of them married. They lived in a house past wwhat was the Venture Lodge now the pub. He said that Miss Simm taught him in 1935. Seeing none of them married. Is it to late to get the 'Heir Hunters' on the case we may have shares in a house<g>
Ron:
We have missed out on a few bob there! ha ha! 412 Billinge Road, Woodlands Terrace is still there. The Simm sisters parents grave image: http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/4786/edwardsmithsimm.jpg
I've seen the grave. I found it last year when I eventually cut my way through the undergrowth. It's a bit special and must have cost a few bob. Did all the money end up with your side of the family?
You must be joking Ron about the money! :-) Bet it's still in a bank waiting for us to claim it ... 2 of the sisters bought their own houses after their dad died in 1916, 391 Billinge Road & 371 Billinge Road. Which Simm sister is in the photo?
I think we will have to rely on Fred Foster to find out which sister she was. I might just go to the two houses on Billinge Road and tell them I've come to claim my inhertence....
3 houses Ron! 412 Billinge Road, 391 Billinge Road & 371 Billinge Road. 1 each and sell the other and split the money! Beltin :-)
Just booked my next trip to the Big Apple on the strength of it<g> I'll e.mail you to arange a time and place for a Meet Up. I'll bring my friend(another relatve)We were friends a long time, before we found out we were second cousins? His mother and my dad were cousins.
The three sisters were all unmarried, but the youngest,Violet, was not a teacher. She was to stay at home and look after the house for the two older ones. Margaret Simm taught me at the infants' school when I was about six.
Violet became quite ill and my mother started to help in the house in 1942. She continued, twice a week at least, for the next 30 years. This was always at 391 Billinge Road.
Clara taught at St Catherine,s School in Wigan
Eric thanks for the info. Only just seen your post.
