I think that is Bob Randall who played RL for Widnes. Randalls Corner at Appley Bridge was connected with his family.

Bob did play full back for Widnes and he wore contact lenses, one famous press photo showed him during a match searching on the ground for one of them. He's also remembered by us for a boxing match arranged in the gym in front of first year pupils.It was between Bob and a boy named Abbott, they were 5th year students. They had been involved in some sort of argument or scuffle so Frank Balmer decided the best way to solve it was to put them in the ring. It was a grudge fight and what a fight it was over 3 ferocious rounds, but at the end of it they had certainly settled their differences. We absolutely loved it. No headguards (Health & Safety?), and their school curriculum was put on hold for the bout. They were both winners.
