3rd from left middle row Mrs. Smith. She had a baby boy whilst employed at HAGS and named him Darius.2nd from right bottom row "Ma Drac".I can still hear Miss Whillas (Wilma) saying "Heads up when you're writing!"
I was there during the War and Billy Tomlinson(seated 3rd left)was a pupil at the same time, I think Miss Unsworth was there then as well. Good to see the continuation. E.T.
Miss Unsworth & Jack Lord were teachers there
when I left in 1952
Second from left back row is Mr. Yates, not Mr Hart
Unidentified teacher between 'Joey' Corner and Mr Hart is Mr Say (an English teacher, standing in for Miss Anderton when she was ill). He didn't stay long. Afraid we weren't very nice to him. He could have been a very good teacher if we'd let him.
The two unidentified teachers on the front row between Mrs Hodgkinson and Miss Unsworth are Mrs Heald (Domestic Science) and Mrs Jones (Latin).
so pleased to find these photos. Mrs Heald was great domestic science teacher. Knowing Joey helped me get my first teaching job.

I remember miss Unsworth teaching Art from 1936 to 1942. I don't think Fairbrother had much time for Art. He could make Geometry difficult when it did not need to be.
Mr. Schikowski is the 4th person in the first row - not the third. He later was my english teacher in kiel, germany.
Miss Anderton was my first form teacher in 1961.Subsequently, Miss Sabeler took over my form until sixth form in 1966.Margaret Anderton taught me English up to O level-she was my inspiration and I flourished in my studies because of her passion and the rigour that she demanded.I was very sad that she did not teach at A level. I would love to know if she is still around the area.
Miss Anderton was my form teacher from 1963-1965 and also taught me English up to O Level. I had the pleasure of meeting her four years ago and my sister[also a former pupil] and I had lunch with her. It was wonderful to see her and reminisce about school days.Sadly I believe her health has since deteriorated and she is now in a care home.
A great school with great teachers. Discipline was tough but fair. I remember many of these teachers with great affection; I left about 1958 and the headmaster at the time was Thomas Crossley. Although I was never an academic I thoroughly enjoyed my time there, we had a great football team under Jack Lord and Les Mather was an outstanding centre forward. Great times, great people!!
1966 was my first year at HAGS. Miss Anderton was my form teacher and of course my English teacher. She really pushed me for a reason she recognised and for this I am forever grateful. Come the 6th form we had a teacher probably straight from university, Miss Topping. I am sure she would become an inspirational teacher aka Miss Anderton.
I have great memories of my time at HAGS as I suppose most ex-pupils do.
The teachers, the vast majority, were really supportive and pushed you to perform to your highest ability.
Some really great teachers. Mr. Cooper put me in detention which I thoroughly deserved. I apologised the following day and he invited me into his after school hours woodwork class. They were really great days!! Mrs Holmes, not on the photograph, was my favourite female teacher and she mothered me although some pupils thought she should have smothered me.I learned with great sadness of the passing of Mr. Corner, affectionately known as 'Joey' along with Mr. Richards they were a dynamic duo. Such happy memories of many wonderful people.
