Didn't Miss Stabeler used to be the games mistress at Ashton Grammar School in the early 50's

She lived in Ashton because I worked in a chemists there when I left HAGS in 1969 and she used to come in.

A girl who was in my form at AGS took over from her at AGS, Verona Nolan

Wasn't Verona's name Bolan at that time, Frank. She only became a Nolan when she married, I think.She provided me with (more than) moral support when, as 1st XI soccer captain I had to make a speech at the end-f -year soccer/hockey social. I had a few drinks beforehand to summon up some Dutch courage and was more than a bit wobbly when the time came for me to speak. Thanks again, Verona, if you're reading this.

Did Mrs. Stabeler teach at Hindley Green Co. Sec. school between 1961 (or earlier) and 1965/6? There was a Mrs. Stabeler there during that time, if memory serves me right, and she also was also reputed to live in A-in-M. If it's the same teacher, she'd've been possibly in her mid forties then. A few years ago, there was an item in a local paper about Mrs Stabeler, can't remember exactly all the details, but one thing stuck out, she wanted to be buried in the garden of her home. I last saw her in the Co-op supermarket in Hindley, dragging her husband around, early 1980s.

I am 5th from the left on the front row. My best friend was Christine Dowling sitting next to Miss Stabler. Christine decided not to stay on in the sixth form and we lost touch . I went to Sheffield University and have lived here ever since. Does anyone know where Christine is?

I am a bit confused Irene, with too many lefts, as to where you are on the photogaph, with Mr Atkinson seated in the middle. You are all very smart,and very clean looking, in your school uniforms.We just had our ordinary everyday clothes, being just a secondary boys' school. I suspect it was all about clothing coupons at that time, even for the students in the grammar schools, and colleges, although I stand to be corrected. 1946/47, teachers' were still being released, after war service.

Does anyone know where Janet Barlow is now ? Would love to touch base with her
