Eric I'm that decrepid now I need for you to give me some more clues. That is Bob Hodgeson the mad Welsh PT teacher, look at the size of his feet, thoses are the pumps he used to use to hit you on the back-side with, happy days. Is that Derick Halliwell back row on the left? If so he used to live around the corner from me on Norley, he was 6 feet tall when he came to Pem;nobody could tackle him. I remember that there was a policy that either you played rugby or football, I played football, the rugby lads I remember were Jimmy Bolton Barry Stevens Jimmy Robinson and the rest who I do appologise for not remembering.Give me more clues so's my starter motor and battery will come to life again.Do you remember the PT teacher who was either before Bob Hodgeson or came after, Jones or Johnson I think, but what do I know? Ive only recently found this site so I will scan it continuously,( if I don't forget) cheers .

Hi richard like you i'm new to this site ,the only ones i can remember are back row 4th from left les bolton, greyham glover, derik tudor.holding the ball i think is bernard fitzpatrick, sat on the front derick knowles and myself,a couple of the lads were in a year below me.The only other PE teacher i recall was a Mr. Humphrey's a bit of a gymnast he was there at the same time as hodgeson.hope this helps its certainly done my head in.

Comment by: Cyril on 2nd August 2009 at 19:45

Hello Richard and Eric, I started there in 1964 and the PE teacher then was a Mr Jones and he gave out the same punishment hitting you with a large gym pump, he also made you weed around the playground areas if you didn't take your gym kit. He left soon after and a Mr Brennan took over I remember him because he gave me a right shiner of a black eye playing rugby when he caught me in the eye with his elbow during a tackle, after he left an ex Wigan rugby player took over his name was Mr Stevens.

Hello Eric and Cyril, You were spot on with Mr Humphry's Eric, I remember playing cave man rugby in the gym and a bunch of us tackled Mr Humphrys in the corner next to the fire doors, this was before they covered them with mobile wall bars, anyway we all hit him he went backwards and we went with him ,he hit the release bar with all of us on him and we all ended up on top of him and him lying on top of a manhole cover just outside the door. We thought we'd killed him we all got off and ran away.We found out later he'd only badly hurt his ribbs. They fitted the mobile wall bars over the two fire doors afterwards.Happy days.(when I look back I think the teachers enjoyed themselves as well don't you ?) cheers ....

Hi Richard & cyril, cyril won't remember this teacher but you will, besides Mr.Bradbury for science there was also Mr.Banks(think dracular chris lee) big bugger he was but a decent chap. Also a Mr.Tylsley or Tinsley, I always remember him having a sword fence all around the classroom with ronald sharp,he was about hit ron with the board ruler when ron picked up a 12"rule and started fencing him, talk about a laugh the class was in stitches.anyway enough for now Cheers.

Comment by: Brian Derbyshire on 27th November 2014 at 10:23

I was at Pem between 61 & 64 then went to Wigan Gramma. Photo confusing to me as I played for the team whilst there and played centre to Derek (Sally) Halliwell. The others I remember in the team were David Dawber, Dave Ashcroft, Ainscough, a small guy I think Hill or Hall lived in Kirkstone (played hooker) and of course Alan Farrington. Hi Alan didn't you live on Norley Hall Avenue near Old Folks Home? We use to play in green and white strip shirts (what colour where these shirts) have a photo of the team somewhere will try to find it, I remember that the teacher on photo is Peter Brison just before Bob Hodson came.

Comment by: Derek Halliwell on 28th December 2014 at 09:26

Does anyone know of Phillip Burrows, he was younger than the boys on here, attended 1969 - 1974, but I'm looking for anyone who may have had a brother at the school during that time who may have known him. he lived on Helvellyn Road, Norley. Please e-mail if you can help: bradder.ab@gmail.com.
