Very sentimental!
The schools of course had huge involvement from James Carlton Eckersley, who wanted the people of Hindley to have the best education.
Alison you were lucky, "most people didn't have one or weren't wearing them", we HAD to or we were in deep trouble.
What we did do was to put a little tuck in the back so that we could wear it more or less on the back of the head and not PLONKED on top.As the years progressed the tuck got bigger.I went in 1951 to 1956
Thanks for the memory Alison
hello, Alison....what memories! I had my hat, scarf, tie and reports-folder until just a few years ago, when I thought,"why am I keeping these?" ;..I was at HAGS from 1964to1969 and there was also a panama hat for use in Summer, but I only remember one girl who had one.As Evelyn says, Thanks for the memories.
Some good memories here.. my hat had a crease down the centre from folding it up and putting it in my satchel on the bus!
Still got my hat from when I started in 1963! Can't bear to throw it away. As you got older, the position of the hat moved further and further back on your head. You got detention if you were caught not wearing it to and from school. Happy days!
