Great photo Janice! Sorry I can't help with where it was taken, hope somebody does tho' cos' it's driving me mad! lol Is that a double decker bus in the background to the right? and also what looks like a long tall chimney?

Comment by: P Doyle on 1st March 2009 at 14:16

Is it not at the beginning of Elm Avenue opposite the Blue Bell

Comment by: frank walford on 1st March 2009 at 18:45

The bloke at the back on the left hand side with the tie on looks very much like bentlegs

Comment by: David Thompson on 2nd March 2009 at 17:34

I think this could be Brocksteds Ave the street on the left looks like Coronation Street the building in the middle being the gable of the end house the tower on the right in the distance could be Our Ladys Church

Comment by: Sue Atkins nee Atherton on 2nd March 2009 at 19:11

I too think this is just as you turn into Elm Ave taken from where the Bookies was. The next Avenue would be Lilac and the houses in the distance look to be the terrace on Leyland Green Road where Ronnie Harrison lived, the tower does in fact look like an old gas lamp top (?) I can see that but don't know if anyone else can.

The lady holding the baby looks very much like Evelyn Hilton who lived on Birch Grove.

Your right Kath there is a double decker bus in the background this must be on Rectory Road. The tall chimney looks like it could be a telegraph pole and the gas lamp is to the left of it. Yes Sue it does look like it was taken from standing were the bookies was. But the terraced houses you can see to the right in the distance must be Church Terrace because you would not be able to see Leyland Green Road houses because of the bend in the road. Think we have cracked it between us.

Yes I know what you mean about the terrace now, looks like where they are walking is sorted Janice.

The location of this as been doing my head in, what I thought I was looking at the left of the photo was the front of the houses on the left hand side of Lilac Ave so I went to Downall Green today in the pouring rain and stood where Sue and Janice said and realized it is the back of the houses on the right of Lilac Ave, the house in the middle of the pic as 3 windows on the side but today it as only 2 however you can clearly see where it as been bricked up. The tall guy behind the man under the umbrella looks like Douglas Yates and the girl behind the women under the brolly is his sister Lillian, all I need do know is go back to Specsavers but I can go back happy

David, your spot on! The houses on the right had me baffled because before Lilac there's another block of semi's. The gable end belongs to the houses on Rectory Rd. opposite the school. I think your correct about Dougie and Lillian and the girl in front of Lillian, in the Girls Guildry, is, I,m almost sure, Brenda Dawber.

Comment by: Janice Ryder on 6th March 2009 at 19:34

Yes David it took me a while too, but what made me realize it was the houses facing Rectory Road was when i noticed the bay window. Just curious to see if anyone could name anybody in the photo thanks for your help.

Kath & Janice, If that is a double decker bus, he's gone wrong because at this point in the proceedings the Billinge bus should have gone round the dam and the "Turnround" plus the Blackbrook bus used Leyland Green Rd and Birch Grove to avoid the procession.

Kath, the Girl's Guildry member extreme right isn't she your Glenda?

Comment by: Ged on 8th June 2009 at 18:56

The couple under the umbrela are Bill & Eileen Mcdonald from Booths Brow Rd,

Comment by: John Tattum on 19th December 2010 at 20:58

The girl right at the front is my sister Eileen Tattum. She was in the Girls Guildry. Dont recognise location around Trinity circuit but dont forget there were lots of other local walks that everyone attended without fail.
