At the beginning of my time, from 1996, Lower Ince Walking Day was a united Walk with the Independent Methodists of Westwood and Hope Street. They dropped out, and St Mary's itself ceased Walking after 2006, partly because of problems with policing the event, but mainly because of the fall in Sunday School attendance. The pictures in this series cover over 80 years of Walks. This view is our oldest. The old church looms large in the right background. The houses on the left still stand, but the Hall of Ince, which stood behind the wall on the left, went in 1972. The photographer is situated high up - perhaps in a bedroom of one of the terraced houses between Burgess Street and the Pemberton Loop Line bridge.
