Belle Green walking day taken from opposite the Oak Tree pub. It's an early date but I can't be certain 1946/47 or 1948.
There is a tremendous display of shiny walking day shoes on parade with the sun glinting on every toe and even the onlookers are in their Sunday best. It's well attended and must have been a big effort and expense at the time.

yes it is opposite the oak tree pub, with the slag heap (slaggy) in the background, and you can see the upright sleepers at the end of the houses hiding the railway line
