I believe Walking-Day in Bryn was known as "Jelly Sunday".

I come from Garswood Irene, as you are no doubt probably aware by now. We called it Jelly Sunday as well. Hardly surprising really considering the geographic proximity to Bryn. However the proper name was Trinity Sunday. What did you call it in Hindley?

Good old photo of Bryn cross any more for us,Bryn was never called jelly Sunday after they stopped walking with Downall Green and Garswood, looking at that photo they had stopped as they are walking down Wigan Road, if they had been walking with Downall Green they would have been going up Downall green Road to join DG/Garswood

Did Bryn ever walk with Downall Green and Garswood Dougie? I don't remember them doing but i only walked early-mid sixties. Jelly Sunday for me was Trinity walking day. My nan used to say thats when they take the coal out the bath to make the jelly. lol

I lived in Ince, Eddie, and we just called it Walking-Day, but I remember old people calling it "Scholars Day".
