One of the two buses is the number twelve to Abram but I cannot tell what the other bus says on it but is obviously heading in the direction of Wigan.
Margaret, is that the Alan Mason who later married my cousin Monica Miller?
It is a brilliant photograph, the other bus could be a No.13... which went to Bickershaw. The No 12 and 13 are the only Wigan Corporation buses that I can remember running that route. LUT did the Leigh Service.
By the advert on the right, which I think is on the side of the former Post Office, I'd guess she's sat between Bryn Street and Delegarte Street?
I remember Lancashire united running passed Ince park and then on to Wigan market place, from Hindley.
vicker, was that sign on Chorley street ? and not the post office.
Is this looking towards spring view next to manly street?
Hi Dennis. I'm afraid I don't know if Alan married your cousin but I have sent an email to his sister (an old school friend with whom I became reacquainted through Wigan World) and I am awaiting her reply.
Rev Long, I am almost certain that the photo was taken between Manley Street and Bryn Street, outside of their house and that the advertisement is not outside the post office but the end-terrace before.
Dennis, I don't know how my previous comment has been posted with your name but it is obviously a mistake.
Its just outside manly st, Dennis.
The sign is on the start of Hilton street, going towards westwood lane, railway bridge. the photo is the start of manly street.
I think I know this mon, Alan Mason, son of Peggy per-chance. I think its him, he lives in Greenfield Avenue in Ince, and he goes in Lower Ince Labour Club and he's a beltin lad! Am I reet Margaret?
Assuming they're outside their own home, knowing which number that was would settle it. I thought it might be the Post Office because the crowd appears to be stood on the pavement, and not the road (Hilton Street).
Dennis, to answer your question, Alan Mason was not married to your cousin Monica.
Moz I'm afraid this isn't the same Alan Mason as the one you mentioned. His mother's name was Ethel.
Rev Long, Alan and his family lived at 179 Warrington Road.
If that's outside 179 then Alf & Harry are right - the ad is on the end of Chorley Street.
Rev, the crowd is boarding the bus.
If they are waiting for the walking day to start, it must be Sunday.... post offices dont open, not even then. they are indeed boarding the bus. I think even to-day the bus stop is still there.

<<Dennis, I don't know how my previous comment has been posted with your name but it is obviously a mistake.>>
... a mistake on the part on the person who allowed the comment to go public, not yours. But it is fixed now.
There must be a a lot of Alan Masons in in Ince! I suspect the lad I am talking about is the same lad Moz was referring to.
Is the childrens park next to the bus on the right?
One Went To Platt Bridge Only Number 11 They Also Ran To Liverpool Number 320 Jointly With Ribble & Lancashire United
