note the ladies in curlers, there were lots of ladies in curlers in that era, you would have thought that Whit Sunday was reason enough to take out the curlers and be seen in all your glory.
I remember people taking chairs out onto the pavement before the walking day procession, and "jangling" about who had "done a moonleet", (moonlight flit to avoid rent arrears), or who was "livn' o'er t'brush",; Gerry, I imagine the hair-rollers came out at night for a trip to the pub/ labour club/ British Legion!
I think the man in the photo is Mr Maloney who is married to Mrs Maloney who was a teacher at the school and the little girl with blonde hair to his left could be me .Also at the far left of the picture the couple you can just see at the back look like Joe and Rene Mulligan who lived in Leaway across the road from my family the Kenny's .Thanks for the memories .
i think u might be right penny as i dont remember mr rose looking like the man in pic.
I never knew Mr Maloney I would have said it was Mr Rose I seem to remember him looking like this no doubt other from that era will comment on the picture... were you really called Penny Kenny?

Hi Gerry and Josie my nickname was penny because it rhymed with Kenny the lads in my class at St Williams thought it was hilarious ,and yes the Maloneys do live near the bridge in Ince Green Lane .

PS, MY MOTHER DIED ALMOST A YR AGO ON MOTHERS DAY AND THE MAN IN THE PIC PRESUMING ITS MR MALONY GAVE THE WINE IN COMUNION A WEEK AFTER MAMS FUNERAL AT A SERVICE FOR HER.HOW WIERD.

hello anne,how funny i thought it was aileen i never new she had a sister i know martin but i thought there was only them,the dvd is st williams walking day 1957 not fabulous quality but watchable and very emotional as lots of us st williams lot have got copies i first saw it when my brother aquired a video of it any way its a long story but my cousin gerry run us some dvds of it and added band music so my husband did some as well and now loads of friends have it if u want i can do one for you or our gerry will ur martin is on it carying the statue,i will be in touch if u want one,

hi penny 2,i think ihave caused some confusion,do you have a brother martin?married to sheila,the dvd i have of walking day was in 1957 i dont know how old martin would have been then, thats presuming he is your brother ? i meant he is on the dvd according to my brother in law not the picture u mentioned.
Yes Josie Martin is my brother and the man in the picture is our dad .

re the walking day video I made that from old film that was shot by Finneys Brothers but during its life it had got cut (it was cine film 8) it took a long time to put it together and was Done for Father pat to get funds for the church!
hello brian, what a surprise and i must say what a good job you have done, and its made so many people happy how did you get hold of it,have you still got cinie of it as things can be done to make it better as ime sure you know, is there any more of it as i would love to see more its fantastic, i heard it was on sale in church some time after i saw it,everybody wants it i hope u have more and thankyou brian for doing it,i must have watched it a thousand times and i allways get a tear to my eye.
Hi Josie, only just seen your comment, with regard to video I only have the copy I did the film itself was in a very poor condition mainly bits of short lengths and is perhaps back in New Zealand?
