Brian Moseley's father, Jesse, with Nell, the horse which drew the Pearson & Knowles 'Wigan Coal Corporation' cart used to carry the younger children around on St Mary's Walking Day. Here it's posed, decorated for a Carnival at Platt Bridge, in 1929. The building behind is the stables which used to stand on Warrington Road, opposite Rocky Bank Terrace, where Laycock's is now. From 1861-66 the barn was used for Worship and the Sunday School by the CofE, and so was the first place of worship of St Mary's Parish. This pic appears in our 2010 Calendar of old and new views of the Parish.
