Awwww I'm glad you enjoyed them Tom but i'm afraid that's all i have.
You can see the hoarding on Annies Corner shop at the top of Skelton Street. Used to buy penny lollies there. Later it becam fishing tackle shop. Anybody know how Skelton Street got its name? I heard it was of a Skelton Well is that true?
My Grandma and Grandad lived at 3 Eddelston Street (Peter Eccles - my mum is Teresa Johnson nee Eccles). The lady at the shop was my Auntie Annie - her husband was Harry Hindley. I was born at number 3, delivered by Nurse Doyle in January 1950.
I remember Harry Hindley, he had a blue and silver Vauxhall Cresta in the mid fifties when not many people had cars. He used to do ‘holiday runs‘, and took our family (Mum, Dad my sister and me) to Blackpool three years on the run.
Hi Karin Yes Skelton Well is in use as an address long before Skelton Street exists. Earliest record that I can find online is 1806. see http://www.jaiwebs.co.uk/DavidMak/localhistory/1806poor2.htm
let me know if you make any headway in finding out: 'Why Skelton?'
I used to live at 11 Rose Hill Street till I was 11...nice to see some photos!
Annie and Harry Hindley were my grandparents. Their only child was my Dad “Brent”
Many of my childhood memories were in grandads caravan in Blackpool.
Hi Karen,
Thanks for sharing the photo. Was wondering if you mind if I download a copy of the picture please. My family (Knowles and Harrison's) had lived in many of the houses on Rosehill at one time or another. I one time they lived in 4 or 5 houses in a row
I was born at no.10 Eddelston st. Rosehill in 1946 .It was my Aunt Olives home. visited and stayed there in 1963. In Sept. I believe. Dad was a GI so we came to America.
