Just rescued this poster from it's inevitable fate in a Bithell's skip

Looks like the one I rescued years ago when I was at St Mary's....

Well done for rescuing it! There is a brilliant dvd that was made from an old cine-film of St. William's Walking Day in 1954 that was rescued just in time as it was being thrown into a bin. A friend of mine put it onto dvd, slowed it down, (as it was a "speeded-up" film like the old cine-films were), and added music. It doesn't bear thinking about, the stuff that has been thrown away as "rubbish".

David yes It's the same one. It appears that the church could soon be demolished?? I went down there this morning to ascertain what needed to be done to salvage the stained glass windows and was given the poster. All the other paper stuff in there is getting moldy and is probably going to be thrown out when/if the building is demolished

Given the chance of such rescue, its better to have these things out of mouldy, cold, unused buildings and looked after until a better location comes along. They are scanned, uploaded and become much more widespread to the general public in the meantime. So much was lost in the days of demolition where so much finished up in skip fires.

It reminds me of a bloke I met who showed me an old catalogue he rescued from the skips at Eckersley Mill's in the 1970's. Today, the thing is a work of art!

Ron, it would be wonderful to rescue the stained glass windows for posterity, and hopefully to be on display somewhere, there are some photos of the windows on the Album which David (Rev. Long) uploaded and the appeal for four to celebrate the centenary of Ethel Round in 2010. https://www.wiganworld.co.uk/album/photo.php?

If the building is demolished what will become of the land, an estate of houses? Though the rear is sloped and quite a dip to it if I remember.
