I remember the children's library, the little shop that sold fabric but the other building next to The Horseshoe I can't remember what it was strangely.

If I remember correctly, the little shop sold plate glass and putty

Davenport's Watch & Clock repairs was just ot the right of the Horseshoe.

I was still at school in 1959/60 and we bought 2 lots of material from there for a special occasion. The next building I have no idea what it was.

In the 70s I got a perspex for my motorbike from the shop next to the horseshoe hotel.

Veronica, it's a good job we weren't in The Chidren's Library together....we'd have been told off for giggling!

It was strict then Irene - we would probably have been thrown out! I remember borrowing The Secret Seven and Famous Five and What Katy Did Next - the memories the photo brings back.

At the time this photo was taken (early 1980s), the little shop next to the library was a hairdresser's called Hair Fashions, or something similar.

Used to walked pass there ever Sunday in the 50 is up to Crawford Terrace to visit my Grandmas.

The shop next to the museum in the early 60s was owned by Eric Watts he ran an electrical contracting business from upstairs and his wife ran the shop downstairs it was called Milbeths , He gave me my first job after leaving school .

The shop to the right of the Horseshoe was Bradshaw's newsagent and School of Motoring. The owners Sammy and Florrie took my mam and dad for driving lessons in the late 50's early 60's. I took the papers for them from a very early age in the 60's,delivering to Bold St, Low St and Withnall St., taking about 4 or 5 papers a time and would get paid in sweets !!. Probably the exact reason I had to have 7 teeth out when I was about 9 or 10, all pulled by the infamous dentist " Butcher Brown". Happy Days ?, you bet.

Mick, I think the hairdressers was called Fashion Flair.

Thank's it's one of the best photos I've seen that's brought back a few good memories for me lol, been in the pub a few times in the 50s before going to the pictures with the lads

The Horseshoe pub was built in 1891 and demolished in 1985 along with all the other buildings including the Powell Art Gallery to make way for the new ring road. My mum used to go to the women's hairdressers called Flair, and I think I remember a sweet shop, or was it a newsagents.
