Anyone know the location? It looks like they are crossing the canal bridge.

Yes, it's Rose Bridge by the canal. The photo looks as if it's been taken from a slight elevation, which I am guessing could be the flight of steps leading up to Rose Bridge Methodist Church door.

The small slated roof in the yard to the rear is now a large green conservatory and all the windows you can see have just been replaced.

I feel this is a sad photo in a way. A memory of days when everybody was together, keeping up traditions & old ways. All gone or all but gone.

Agreed, Helen, and yet something modern, the internet, which the people on this photo could never have dreamt of, has allowed us all to see their walking-day again. But I know exactly what you mean! x.

That is so true Irene, thank you, cheered me up no end.

Looks damn depressing to me.

The Priest with the stick would be Father Brophy who was Parish Priest from 1907 for 33 years until his death in 1940. I reckon the postcard is from around 1907 up to the Great War. I don't suppose the folk had much to be happy about then, Dave. One war just finished and another more murderous one about to start, yet it appears that they still had faith and turned out to prove that fact.
