We used to play some WGS school matches on here as well as on the school field. Lovely wicket to play on. Interesting to note in the booklet the commentary about the visiting Lancs CC team. Note the differences between Amateur "Gentlemen" who have their initials given eg A.N Hornby, and the Professional "Players" who are just referred to by their surname eg Barlow. This only stopped in the 1960's.

Occasionally, in the old borough days,in the late fifties, early sixties, the steward would leave one bottle of refreshment on the window sill of the club house for the night duty bobby on that beat. I suppose he was ensuring that the place got inspected.
