Although I can't actually see him on this photograph, I believe Eddie McDermott, at one time, worked with the gang that operated this crane.
He did indeed, Eddie - and his own pics of the crane are on the site (look around item 7664). He appears in others' pics, too - if you scroll through the Railways section of "work".
I love photos of steam cranes. Is this crane still in existance or scrapped? I doubt it is in Network Rails hands now but did it get preserved.?
