Hi Stephen are you still in touch with Billy's daughter, Barbara? I believe she now lives down south? I worked with her at John England's in the 1960's. nice girl
Latics legend Billy was a paratrooper in the war and took part in the infamous Arnhem landings. He left Latics after the title winning 50/51 season to join Rossendale Utd and then Northwich Vics. He returned to Latics in October 1952 whilst also working as a miner at Bickershaw. Became the first player to score 150 first team goals. He played alongside the great Tom Finney in a prestige friendly. His record with Latics was 237 apps (171 lge) and 188 goals (130 lge). He later played for and managed Wigan Rovers.
Latics are urgently in need of another Billy Lomax or else they will be relegated again.
A true hero, and exceptional sports man. Didn't Wigan Rovers have their ground, near The Saddle, at Newtown, at the rear of St Edward's R.C. Church, or in that vicinity?.
Latics are urgently in need of another Billy Lomax to win the FA cup again!
I REMMBER BILL LIVEING ON GRAWFORD AVE HIS DAD USED TO BE THE KNOCKER UP YOU NEVER OVER LIED WITH
Uncle bill managed Wigan Rovers for a while. I remember him taking me to a few games . I must have only been 5 pr 6 years old. I think the ground was in Newtown
Billy lomax was my uncle and god father ...sadly passed away now , even today if my son (who lives in Cardiff) mention his name in association with Wigan he's is recognised as one of the lattices best players
I remember my uncle Billy and was just sharing my memories with my grandson , what happened to all his medals and memorabilia .
