There's more news on that front page, than four pages of todays Observer!

Observer costs 95p these days, with little news of no interest. The paper you see here would give the Council a bashing if they stepped out of order.

Yes, but pity about Corletts' racist ad. :-((

Don't understand miner's daughter comment?....This yellowish front page Wigan Observer was printed over 34 years ago, it was considered to be the handsomest newspaper published in Britain. A considerable measure due to web offset printing and also to the staff's admirable use of type and layout that reflects the highest honour. In it's first year on web offset (1966) the paper won the bronze plaque as the best designed weekly in the land and only the 3rd in the country to go web offset printing.

There are some SAD people around who should get themselves a life without looking for the 'negatives' in everything. Nothing at all wrong with the advert.
You aren't Shami Chakrabarti are you?

This was just 4 weeks before the May 3rd election that brought Mr Thatcher to power.
Re the headline about the WRP and NF.....can't remember if the NF put up a candidate, but the WRP ( Workers' Revolutionary Party ) certainly did - a young lad from Atherton as I recall, Andrew Smith(?). Actress Vanessa Redgrave, then a WRP activist spoke at a public at meeting Whelley School one Friday night in the run -up to the election.
