That doesn't look like Scholes to me, Sandra. The buildings and the open space with trees doesn't look right at all.
Are you sure this is Scholes ? I have doubts
Sorry I am not sure about the photo it was on some old slides belonging to my late Father ... I do know that it was the Whit walks though
brought up in scholes from 1943 don't remember any three story houses
Could this not be Wigan Lane?
Looks like the photo put on opposite way Standishgate/Wigan Lane, or am i totally wrong?
Vic, my first inclination was to think it was Wigan Lane/Standishgate but, looking at it again, I don't think it is. Where is The Royal Oak Pub? The three storey buildings don't look right either. Beginnning to wonder if it is Wigan at all, as I can't think of anywhere else resembling this place , if it isn't Wigan lane/Standishgate
Did they have trees in Scholes in them days, if not maybe it was taken at the bottom of Standishgate.
Vic is right. Sandra has scanned? the slide the opposite way round. It is Standishgate looking from the Convent/Royal Oak side.
You are correct Jack, the first building would be Maguire and Dickenson's dentists.
Isn't the procession just about to pass, what is now the car park in front of St. Mary's R. C. Church?
This is a mirror image of Standisgate leading to Wigan Lane. What is on the right of this photgraph, is really on the left. The trees are St pauls entrance; the detached building is Florence House opposite Royal Oak; near the top you can see Grimes Garage.
