Some recent uploads seem to have incurred the wrath of one or two of our regular viewers and listeners, who took exception to various pictures which were not within a quarter mile of Wigan town centre! So here especially for them are a series of pictures all taken within a vary short radius of Wigan. Nearly all of them are taken by Brian Barlow who used to bring regular batches into Mike Quinn's shop for onward sale. As far as I can tell none have appeared before on WW, but if th eagle eyes do spot one you will just have to accept my apologies. Anyroad railway pictures are always worth a second looksee!

I have no date or other information about this first picture other than to say it looks like a Britannia class 4-6-2 with a fitted goods train on the Down Slow crossing the canal at Bamfurlong. With a good head of steam evident we are obviously moving at speed and it would be reasonable to assume that we wont be taking the junction to drop down to Bamfurlong Sorting Sidings Junction, and the yards there. Tom Sutch put a similar one on which someone else then did a "now and then" of as well, but I can't find it now; but doubtless someone else will.

Super set of pics! What is the copyright position over using them, Dave? I'm about to put together our Parish's annual calendars, one of which features old railway views taken in St Mary's parish (Springs Branch, WCML etc). This set has suddenly increased the choice for me... if I'm free to use them?

Thanks for the comments gents, glad you enjoyed them Dave.
Rev. David, I honestly have no idea about copyright. As you will note, wherever possible I have identified and credited the photographer responsible - the labourer always being worthy of his hire etc, etc. I would imagine that having never been published in any official publication (as far as I am aware at any rate) then they are fair game. I certainly would be most happy for you to use them if you would wish to do so, as I have had a couple of the parish calendars before and found them excellent viwing for the year. I would imagine that no one would object if it is for a good cause, and that quite properly, the credit is given for the photographer were possible to do so. Cheers, Dave
