Is there any date on it Phil or a hallmark perhaps?

There's no marks or dates on the medal.Any ideas what it's for.It's slightly larger than a 1 p coin

The National Union of Railwaymen was formed in February 1913 so the medal would be no older than that. If you know when Great Granddad worked on the railway that would give you a closer date. My guess is that it is a watch fob most railwaymen especially signalmen would have pocket watches indeed they were supplied by the company.
