It was Thicknesse Row but known locally as the Garden Houses
My dad was born there in 1899
Thanks for that my dad, uncles and aunts and parents lived in the row for a time probably in the 1920/30's. Their name was Hankin. They moved some time later to Mint Cottage, Mint Court, Scholes
What a great photo of the row of houses where i was born, i lived in the end house on the left where the gas lamp is in fact i think i am in the picture of little boys, second line fourth from left and it was Thickness row lovingly called the garden row because of the lage gardens on the other side of the houses which was actually the front facing St Catherines rec this photo shows the back of the houses. I lived there untill the great community destruction of the fiftys and sixtys and re housed at marsh green but i must admit having a bathroom with hot and cold running water inside was space age stuff to me no more tin bath in front of the fire hoping nobody is going to visit and not having to go outside in the middle of winter in the rain and snow hoping the pipes havnt froze and there is enough esso blue in the heater to keep the chill off, how managed with the little squares of newspaper i will never know
