PS WISH I HAD THE NAME PLATE NOW I COULD RETIRE FROM NETWORK RAIL LOL.
Tom, are you sure you have got the date right for the photograph, because the overhead electrification equipment of the WCML in the background, seems to be complete, but has I remember, in March 1972 the electrification of the WCML in the Wigan area had hardly begun, maybe 1973 or 1974 might be a more accurate date for the photograph.
I never realised that Wigan was the Anorak Capital of the civilised world !!!!
Stuart, checked the two slides I took of the engine, both have the date on above. Long time ago, all I can remember of that day is we took the engine to Liverpool.
Horace - It seems more like a magnet for special needs...
such wonderful comments for a underpowered design. could,nt take twelve over shap without crawling over the top.
railway authorities banned drivers from using steam bankers from tebay for them.
I've checked my Ian Allan spotters books and the ones with information as at January 1973 still have the loco listed with its pre-TOPS number as in the photo. By the following year the number had changed. So Tom is likely to be right and this photos is consistent with being from 1972.
Hi chris the ian allen book you have can i ask what year it is!
bloody good pic tom.say hello to max.
