I see it's on the up fast line, unusual for goods trains at that time, when the Whelley loop was very much in use. The slow lines are in the foreground. Anyone no why?

Down fast.
it's quite possible that my Dad was the guard on that train. He loved his job.

Yes Neil it is the West Coast main line. You probably don't recognise it because it is not overgrown with weeds and bushes and it doesn't have the usual scattering of supermarket trollies,carrier bags and burst bin bags.This photo was taken in the days of British Railways when employees still had pride in their jobs.
