Remember both the Peaks and the bin liner.Doesen't seem so long ago but time seems to pass very quickly these days.
I can remember walking over that bridge with my mam as a little girl, probably late 1950s. The steam from the trains made your clothes feel damp, but to experience that wonderful, haunting smell of steam-trains again would be worth any amount of damp coats!
Irene, you can indeed experience that wonderful smell of steam at East Lancs Railway, Bolton street Bury. Not far from wigan, a great day out in summer.
Looks like thats working the 6J75 "binliner empties" service from appley bridge landfill site back to brindle heath or dean lane in manchester.
We signalmen affectionally nicknamed this working. . . . .
"dusty bin",(after the character on the 1980s 3.2.1 game show on ITV,hosted by Ted Rogers).
Im showing my age now.
