Under close inspection there is some writing on the bridge that reads "??AN BRIDGE CB", could this be Swan Bridge, Wigan Bridge or something else?
It's Adam Bridge where the A49 crosses the River Douglas
I think if you were stood there today you would be looking over the ASDA carpark towards B&Q.
Slater's shop, extreme left of photo.
Douglas Garage, otherwise known a "Johnny Mosses".
My cousin served his time there..I was a frequent visiter.
You can see where they have blanked out the name of the bridge so if the german did land they wouldnt know where they was.
The shop on the left is where Ormskirk Rd begins.
There used to be some houses down the side of the shop overlooking the River Douglas. There was only a pathway down to the houses.
the garage was later to become national tyres which was demolished in 1999 to make way for new saddle junction.
frith st was down the side of douglas garage
The row of houses down the path at the side of the river
was Douglas Terrace.
Sorry when the garage was demolished Smith's/Websters (now Shearings) coaches built a new depot and work shop.I used to work part time on Friday nights serviceing coaches returning from the continent.which had to be ready for a return trip on Saturday morning!
