I'm sure you were right Elizabeth. When I go on cruises and a black tie night is specified many ladies do dress in black. I think it is because they are not adventurous enough with any other colour. I have cream outfits as well. Good on you for wearing cream, will look out for you.

Yes Jo Ann but I do not know the exact date it will be shown but if I find out I will put it on here I have asked Aitch to put it on for me , the headgear I have to wear owing to the result of the shingles on my head and face , specalist says to wear it to keep skull warm as it had risen with the shinles and also i lost a lot of my hair

Elizabeth, sorry to hear you had shingles, I believe it's very painful. I hope it's gone now?

Also the loss of your hair must be so difficult. Are allowed to wear a wig at all?

My daughter lost a lot of her hair from medical treatment, but she has some great wigs, and really they are so good, you wouldn't know.

Well you might suspect the purple one and the green one, but she has some "normal" ones the same colour as her own hair, and they look great.

Momac, I make jewellery and cakes amongst other things.

I've uploaded to my profile my daughters wedding bouquet which took 35 thousand 2mm beads to construct. Her bridesmaids wrist corsages, her wedding cake, all the flowers, butterflies and the scroll on top are made with various types of sugar, and the table favours, again the flowers leaves of ivy etc made with sugar. I also made 200 bath bombs evening favours, of various essences.

I was a very busy bee last year.🐝

momac, I've just uploaded a picture of the "frill" on my daughters bouquet. It was woven on 60 strands of wire! It's not showing at the moment though.

So far this year, I've made a further three wedding cakes, and another beaded bouquet.

I also make chain mail jewellery, which started when I bought one of those 20s chain mail bags, and it needed a repair.

I like to be busy

Glad you like it Anne,

I did have a Victorian Pattern for the bouquet frill, which was in a book of flower patterns, I bought it over tinternet from the US.

There are patterns for flowers, but after trying several to develop the technique I invented my own, apart from the gypsophela, which was also in the book.

There are two sorts of beaded flowers, Victorian and French, I've done both, but prefer the Victorian!

If you follow the link, my inspiration was the book called Victorian Wedding. Third book down.

Momac, I do make about 4-6 wedding cakes a year, I just charge what it costs me to make them but some people seem to think I can make them for nothing. They look at the prices, about £400 for a 3 tier, and think I can make them for £50, I wish

I was once asked to make quite an elaborate birthday cake, and when I said how much it would be, the woman said, but I can get one in Tesco for £10! True you can, but not covered in hand made sugar flowers and sugar butterflies!

The beaded bouquets are very expensive to make, the beads alone on my daughters bouquet cost me over £70. I have had a few enquiries from people who saw it, but they are not even prepared to pay for the cost of the materials.

I'm currently doing Christmas tree beaded flowers, in the style of a Ponsettia, they are coming out great!

things.

Yes momac read your edit.

Replied: 8th Oct 2015 at 17:51

Posted by: Jazzy (8656)

Momac, I think that's the same for all hand made things and crafts. people like them, but just don't realise how much it costs me to make a cake than a big retailer who buys in bulk. I would prefer not to have the spare room stacked with dried fruit and icing sugar!

It takes me longer to make than they expect, I used to make a 3 tier wedding cake start to finish in 4 weeks. These days it's more like 6 weeks.

I have to find the time in between looking after my daughter, which is not always easy.

I'll post a pic of the poinsettias when they are finished, they are looking good

Replied: 8th Oct 2015 at 17:57

Posted by: Jazzy (8656)

Anne, if you want to do a three dimensional card, I think it would work very well, would look lovely.

The Victorian method, you have to string each bead individually onto a fine wire.

The French method is slightly easier, as you get a bead spinner, and thread a couple of yards at a time.

The best beads are Japanese, they are more uniform in size and shape than any other. I used to use German beads, but they are not good enough for really fine work.

If you need any help with suppliers let me know, I found a few good ones.

from.

Replied: 8th Oct 2015 at 18:35

Posted by: Anne (4386)

Momac my feathers were from Hobbycraft (turkey feathers) I then dyed the tips with black ink and also needed to lengthen them with fine tubing. I then found some imitation horsehair to stick on the tips along with fluffs made from bits of the fluffy trimming from haberdashery stores. To cover the tubing used felt and dyed string. That was the best I could do to imitate eagle feathers which of course the Indians were able to use.

china painting which I did go to night school for..it involves
painting on anything china..and the china paints are really
cheap unlike oil paints..the only problem is you've got to own
a firing kiln which I'll never be able to afford..if you can
find Owd Dave in the search box and click on his name, you will see a plate that I gave to him..it's of wild roses..I did it
