After spending a long time searching for the family of a fallen WW1 soldier from Wigan (Joseph Murphy KLR), I came across your site, which has been so very helpful in finding his family history. Your work is much appreciated. Thank you.

Research on the Internet

Several years ago I did a test on Ancestry.com and discovered that I was 78% British. This led to further research in the states and a couple of reasons for my ancestors ultimately changing the spelling of my maiden name from Hindle to Hindley and once again to Hinsley in the US. Further research took my ancestry back to British History Online which linked my family to Adam de Hindley living in the year 1292 who is also linked back to a location called Aspull. I am looking for someone who may be able to tell me more about additional history of my family, photos, etc.

Emmerline, I am sorry no one better than me, has been able to help you with your query.
Have you looked at a website called 192 ?
It has a find people service. General enquiries show that the name Eileen Ainscough is listed in the Wigan area 5 times over the last few years.

Hi,
A long shot but I'm wondering if anyone knows a woman called Eileen Ainscough, I think she is living in Platt bridge at the moment near St Nathaniels. She used to live in Mannion house in Scholes! A friend of the family whom we have lost touch with but we still get Christmas cards but have no information for her. Thanks

Hi. My grandfather was born in 1897 in Wigan. His name was Harry Hilton and his father was Thomas Hilton. I believe the year they immigrated to the US was 1901. Several brothers and sisters remained in Wigan. We are planning a trip to England in 2021 and will be visiting Wigan. Looking for the possibility of cousins in Wigan. Thanks much. Happy holidays.
