David Devine, one of the founder members of wiganworld has sadly passed away on Saturday evening.

I met David around 20 years ago at Fred Dibnah's and since then we became close friends. David was the friendliest and nicest person I ever knew.

He always had a smile and would always have an interesting tale to tell. He was known to many in Wigan, having worked in the old Market Hall as a butcher.

David loved his home town of Wigan and would go above and beyond to help me with the website. He once flew over Millgate in a plane piloted by Alan Davies to get aerial photos of the dig!

RIP David Devine, you will be sadly missed by many.

I feel I have lost one of my true real friends.
Also my oracle on anything to do with Wigan past.
One of David’s tales from his childhood always made me smile.
It probably won’t mean anything to anybody else, but his punch line was.
TO BE CONTINUED!!!!!

I worked with David in the old market hall in the early sixties. He was a butcher at Greens and I was a butcher at McAvoys. We were about 16-18 years old at the time.
So sorry to hear of his passing. RIP, young man.

So sad. Remember David from the Market. A lovely gentleman and always had a pleasant chat if he saw you to speak to.
A privilege to have known you. Xx

I knew David from many years ago in the Tunstall Lane area of Highfield when we were a lot younger. He was always a good chap and very pleasant to talk to. RIP David. It was a privilege to know you.

He was a grand lad, David. Gone also another well known face at Wigan Market, my hubby, JOHN BAXTER, Market Maintenance Attendant for 30 years. We both knew David well, obviously John more than me as he lived at the Market Hall. Died 23 Feb 2019. He left the Market reluctantly through poor health 14 Feb 2011, but had been off ill for a number of months. He fought the Big C with all he could muster, brave lad.

Not sure why I’ve not seen these lovely pics and comments about my Dad before today. Miss him and his stories everyday - a true Wigan Legend he was x
