Queen's Visit to Wigan

Started by: bingoqueen (571)

Does anyone know which route the Queen will take to Heinz factory tomorrow. All I know is she is arriving at Wigan North Western by Royal Train but dont know any times. Do you think she will come through Pemberton or maybe go down past Asda and through Marsh Green? Just want to know in case I can get a glimpse of her

Whichever route she is taking, once she has been to Heinz she is then off to open the Sports Village in Leigh and then on to Bolton (I don't know what for). It ses so in the Leigh Reporter.

www.wigan.gov.uk says:

Expected to arrive at Wigan North Western railway station at around 10am, the Royal Party will visit first Heinz at Kitt Green to mark the Golden Anniversary of Europe's largest food processing plant, before moving on to a late-morning appointment at Leigh Sports Village.

Did you know that when Paddy Mcguiness refereed the last pie eating contest at Harry's Bar, he refused to eat any of the pies cause they were Poole's, and it's in his contract with Greggs that he doesn't eat any other pastries/pies? (well, he doesn't get caught eating em).

Well, as she is going to Heinz first and then later to Warburtons in Bolton it seems to me that beans on toast are the meal for today!!
I, too, think she is doing a grand job. What must she be thinking when she sees things going on like this expenses stuff? And Prince Philip can be okay on ocasions (I know he has put his foot in it before now)but he and her Majesty have been together for over 60 years. That's a feat in itself. I admire ANYBODY who can go the full mile. God bless em.

It's a great scene Custard.

They (robbers) all fall-out about who is sitting at the front of a minibus. "What, me with my asthma, sit in the back Charlie?" was one excuse. (or something like that).

Link

Following your comment, I remembered it and imagined the Royal couple having a barney over who sits next to the driver.
Perhaps that's why they have all them coppers round the limo?

Which way to The Tower?

No. It is HRH or Her Royal Highness and then you may say H.M. the queen or H.M. forces and so forth.....

Leigh Sports Village welcomes HRH The Queen

Date: 21 May 2009
The rain stopped, the clouds parted and the sun shone as HRH The Queen arrived in Leigh.

As the royal limousine pulled up at the multi-million pound Leigh Sports Village, HM the Queen emerged resplendent in a vivid fuchsia pink to be greeted by the welcoming crowd including students from Wigan and Leigh College on the site..

Scores of people were waiting, some for hours, at the front of the stadium as invited guests and children from local schools were seated inside ready for the flag waving frenzy when the Queen and Prince Philip made their way to the stage on the pitch at the stadium.
Guests included Leigh MP Andy Burnham, his wife and family, Lord Peter Smith and local councillors.

Her Majesty pulled a curtain to reveal a plaque commemorating her official openiing of LSV before emjoying a sumptious meal.
Royal fans who had been disappointed when Her Majesty arrived and entered the stadium immediately were delighted when she took the time to meet them and accept bouquets as she departed the stadium.

And Dostaf backed it up with -

However, you're WRONG!

Warburtons bakery is in Bolton. Bradshaw is about a mile away, at the other side of Tongue Moor!

PS. My youngest lad got a video of her at the station this morning.
It's no wonder she got straight in the car and ignored the crowds.
All you can hear is young idiots swearing their heads off, and trying to attract her attention by shouting 'Gran, Gran' and other stupid Wigan comments about 'pies' and 'lastics'.

She's come to Calgary a few times. For me the best was 1974 I think it was. Mum and I went down to the route she was taking. A crowd was at the corner where she was expected to slow down to turn but we were a couple of hundred feet away on the edge of the road alone. She drove by slowly maybe 10 mph and we waved and they waved and they were looking at us, only us and smiling and waving and for a few seconds we knew we were the only subjects she had in the whole world. Wow. Tears in my eyes right now after 35 or so years.

The first time I saw her, was outside the Cleansing Dept. Frog Lane, when she was a girl, with her Father,Mother & Sister, just after the war, about '46/'47.(?)
All us schoolkids lined up to cheer 'em on their visit..
Edit>
Just looked it up, the royal family visited Pagefield Works (walkers) 7th March 1945

Dostaf, that looks like archival footage. While the flowers are correct and the the flags current, things are a'changing down here in Oz,the Republican cause is gaining momentum. It seems a long, slow, and at times a painful process but we will get there and should have been there by now had not John Howard interfered with the referendum questions. By the way,it is only the committed monarchists who sing the British national anthem in their private cloistered enclaves, wistfully dreaming of the days of the Empire.

So Roy-what will the monarchy be replaced by? How does it negatively affect you now? Do you see any value to heritage and tradition?

Roy: my comment about the Aussie flag was in response to xrh's link to the national anthem.

The patriotic soul who put it on youtube accompanied it with the image of the union flag (upside down).

PS I don't really think everything is upside down down -under. Well not since I watched Prisoner Cell Block H anyway.
