Thanks Dennis, I assume this is another pub turned into apartments.
Always liked the Red Lion at Haigh where we got engaged 50 years ago!

Remember going in there every Saturday with a friend, they had live amateur singer's mainly Country and Western.
Lovely clean and well run pub in the 1990s. The building still looks good.

I can always remember Emily and Jimmy who used to run it in the 60s and 70s what a dam shame it turned into daft appartments soon they will be cropping up everywhere no wonder theres no housing for people the way this country has been dragged down with the population in this country its an awful mess!

Many memories of the Hare & Hounds some good friends in there.
Good singers and some not so good but very enjoyable entertainment.
The locals were friendly as well. My kind of pub then.

When I was young the older end of the family always referred to it as "Turner's" based on a 1930s/40s landlord. In the 60s it was managed by Jimmy Mayor and his wife.
The beer choice was Greenalls at the Hare and Hounds or Swales Ales at the Gerrard Arms.
The lounge at the front left had press-bell waiter service at the weekend, games room to the right, bar in the hallway between and a sort of men's drinking room beyond left - the domain of some incredible characters e.g. Harold Crompton (Crimp) and Thomas Gregory, stone deaf, but could detect a stray tanner landing on a floor at 100 yards!
Around 1960 one of the barmaids appeared on a tv quiz show with the whole of Bolton Road watching either on their own or on neighbour's television sets.
Thanks Dennis.

We used to have a reunion here from where I once worked every year just before Christmas
and it was always a great night.

Used to go in here in the 80s. The landlord at the time was Brian Fairhurst, better known as Giant. He was previously landlord at the Wheatsheaf in Wallgate.

Contradiction in terms there Julie, surely apartments are housing?
