The Ice Cream Man Cometh. Will it be Mr Softytop or Signor Whippy? They've got a queue so whoever it is. And a cloudless blue sky as a backdrop for your photo Dennis.

There's plenty bags been dumped at the side of the Litter Bin, though there's writing on them so they may be council bags.

Nice photo. Just a reminder that there are beautiful days all year round. A bit of sun and blue sky works wonders. to lift the spirits, and I love Autumn leaves.

The tennis court looks a bit run down now. Do they still play ?

Cyril, the blue bags at the side of the bins will have been placed there by volunteer litter pickers. Litter picking equipment is provided free of charge by the Council to any one who asks. You do not need to be part of a group. Leaving bags at the side of a bin is the correct way.

Its very common to see litter bags at the side of bins up here in Shevington, because Shevington has an active team of volunteer litter pickeruppers

Just come through Hindley Green and the volunteer litter pickers are out with their bags.Well done to them.

Aspull is a lovely place, with plenty of open space. Thank you Dennis for photos.

It's all well and good that volunteers do go around picking up litter and I know they want their areas to look good, but folk at one time would be employed by the council to keep the streets etc., litter free and clean, in other words the picking up of litter and rubbish was someone's job that paid their rents or mortgages and fed their families etc.,.

Folks pay far more in Council Tax than ever they did when the council employed folks in providing this service and not just this service but lots of other services too - what services are provided now - residents bins get emptied every week. This can only mean that the vast majority of council tax now goes to paying exorbitant salaries to the management tiers of the few departments that are left. Also the demolishing of buildings of fifty years and less than forty years old that cost an arm and a leg to build and which saw off thriving town centre shops and thoroughfares. All this just to erect more buildings of which no costings have been released, but they'll surely cost far more than an arm and a leg to build.

The van I initially thought was an ice cream van? it isn't, it's a minibus with youngsters waiting to get on, just noticed too the tree by the silver car, I've heard of trimming a tree, but that gone too far - it's practically scalped, which volunteer did that, or was it an irate motorist who disliked leaves falling onto their bonnet or birds roosting on the branches above it.

Couldn’t agree more Cyril , but nothing is ever likely to change for the better in Wiggin is it mate ? … so best to sit down , take a deep breath , have a brew and relax …
as it seems you’re in imminent danger of turning into me … and we wouldn’t want that happening would we ?

Comment by: Veronica on 29th November 2022 at 23:30

I agree with everything you say Cyril. Standards have dropped in most towns, even here in Shangri La Howfen. Clowns with no brains have taken to stuffing cans in the hedges only feet away from bins! Not content with only decorating the trees with doggy bags …. I despair…. what next I wonder…

Ozy and Veronica, I agree despite what Neffex sang about.

There was a privet hedge along the pavement bordering the field on Parsons Walk, and when the Youth Zone was being built and the hedge taken out, they found that it contained loads of cans and bottles that had been stuffed into it over the years.

It seems like Supermarkets are awaiting the older generation’s passage into eternity then they can get rid of the last of the tills and Banks with no ‘hole-in-the -walls’…I foresee a future generation with brushes and recycled plastic bags attached to their shoulders not unlike a Dad’s Army collecting litter before they drown under piles of rubbish. Self service, like garlic bread will be the future….God help ‘um… because councils won’t!

Got me with that one Cyril ; never heard of Neffex , so I don’t have clue as to what it was they sang about , but I did Google them and endured about six seconds or their rap tripe and that was more than enough for me … so it looks as though I’m never going to find out either .
And on the topic of relentless , insidious technological , so called “ advances “ … according to a missive received this very morning at Antique Land Towers , British Gas are sending round one of their minions next week to install smart meters at my humble bothy …

……..Yeah , right …….

… over my cold, rapidly stiffening corpse he will … although he’s perfectly welcome to take the analog meters out .

Yours respectfully…
Mr Licko .

Fight , fight with all your might… I am with you on that one Ozy they won’t even get over my frozen stiff corpse jammed up against the door..

If these rob-dog thieving utility companies carry on the way they’re heading for much longer Veebs , it won’t be that far in the future before they find all of our frozen corpses spragged up against the door .
God Almighty ! … how are young working class couples , just starting out , expected to survive in this bleedin’ country ?

And that’s me at my negative best .

Comment by: Veronica on 30th November 2022 at 13:12

I worry more for my grandchildren and the next generations to come Ozy. Anyway just to show my positive and practical side I am knitting away to keep the cold at bay. Any wool left over I’ll send to Ukraine, my heart bleeds for them it really does. Any spare money goes to them…

But then again , what have future generations ever done for us Veebs ?
