What memories, went to work there as a library assist when I left Wigan Girls High School, mid to late 50's.

Now thats more like it, refurbishing instead of demolishing a fine building. Great photo.

This used to be one of my favourite places, I used to go at least once a week - having gone through the books in the childrens' libary very quickly - I used my parents' tickets until I was old enough. Such wonderful books.

I never went in this building until it was The History Shop, but as a child I went to the old Powell Childrens Library which I think was on Station Road, I know where it was THEN, but the area has changed so much I can't pinpoint where it stood.

I remember sneezing once whilst studying on the upper floor and a Lady came up the stairs and said QUIET PLEASE and I only sneezed
