About right, does that include VAT? Mini skips barely hold a full sponge.

We have just had to hire a skip to do our front garden. Ainscoughs were the cheapest company i found and i got quotes from quite a few companies.

She would be better ordering a big one.

Because her neighbours will fill it with all their crap

I rang a nice man at the council to see if I could have a skip in the street.

Recently saw a skip with chairs and stuff in it. Looked like flat pack stuff and made me wonder why they hadn't bothered to break them up, thus leaving a heck of a lot more room in the skip.

When did skips, as we know them, first appear in the UK?
(I don't know the answer)

Glad your daughter's got it all sorted, Ecmdj. If the skip's to be delivered before 5th November, things could well vanish overnight as Mache mentioned.

Are waste skips money for old rope?

I was impressed by your link at 15:10, Dostaf:

www.skipsandcontainers.com - with a postcode search box for local skip and container suppliers

But here's a tip - entitling it In't google great? might mean it just goes to waste.

I was somewhat disappointed, Jo Anne.

I had hoped we could claiim them as a Wigan thing.

Now, here's a little thing:

Paladin Bins.

One of those generic terms like Hoover, known the world over.

And where did they all begin?

Google is great, have a go.

If a skip is placed on private land, ie, your garden, and not on a public highway,do you get a reduction on the price of the skip.

I never Google, Dostaf.

Seriously, some good links can be overlooked when they're hidden by creative titles. It's a shame if they're missed due to being mistaken for throwaway comments.

Also from the website, www.skipsandcontainers.com:

"Before you order a skip you should ensure that the skip supplier can place the skip on private property.

Where can the skips be placed?
Skips cannot be placed on the roadside without a permit and correct signage and lights. You must contact your supplier if you cannot place on private land. Your supplier may also be able to help organise this. Alternatively, they may also be able to organise a wait and load facility.
"

From Wigan Council's website - 'The fee for each skip permit is £17.50. '

Would that cost be paid by the person hiring the skip, so be money saved if the skip's placed on their private land?

Thanks, TOM, it seems it will be the former option in Wigan:

'As an individual you cannot apply for a skip permit.  You need to contact a registered skip operator who will apply on your behalf. '

Thanks jo anne I thought there was a charge for placing one on a public highway.
Do the skip hire people just add it to the bill, even though its on private land, and hope people dont notice.

I,m in a colourful mood today
