Rbilly, there was one upstairs in my bedroom the other day..

I watched it run along the side of the wall and it stopped next to the towel cupboard, so I got the hoover out and suctioned it..

I told a friend what I had done and she said, you need to empty your hoover because it might have babies and there will be thousands of them!

Freaked me out, and it was also massive..

You should never injure or kill spiders they are a species apart. Either put them outside or in the airing cupboard for winter.

i think they are pregnant at this time of year and that is why they come indoors, to give birth. as custards friend said, in the hoover

Bennie, I didn't injure or kill the "intruder"

I just didn't want it running around in my house so I helped it out..

It is now probably running around with its thousands of offspring in my bin..

Bella, it has probably give birth to half of Wigan it was that big!

we have 1 of those plug in things for mice, but this is for spiders too. i can honestly say we have never seen mice and hardly get any spiders. it generates something through all the wires in the house, that spiders etc don't like

Surely spiders are clever, Hieronymous - they created their own web.

And think of all those *intelligence creatures they feed on ... *those flies on the walls.

Have there been any more sightings of your spiders, Rbilly?

The night before last we had the biggest one I've ever seen..legs everywhere it had,so off to Asda and got some conkers..put them at back of T.V.in the corner and behind suite, another big one came strolling across the room again last night went behind T.V. but soon came out so the conkers must definitely work..we never kill them..just put a glass over them, card underneath and out they go.

Sorry, Rbilly - I do understand. I have phobias of my own.

The situation reminds me of the story by Anthony Browne - Willy and Hugh.

Hugh the Ape saves Willy the Chimp from a bully, Buster Nose:

And Willy is able to help his friend, Hugh, by taking a spider away:

I'm petrified of driving, while my sister-in-law is one of the best drivers I know.

She's terrified of moths and I was once able to help her by catching one in her house and setting it free outside.

We don't keep anything in our airing cupboard, so spiders have always been welcome to set up home in there... it is their space. They can set up their own economy, passport controls... it is an area that they have total control over.

However, if they even TRY to set up another colony in the bathroom they are gonna DIE!!!

The QI Elves:

Spiders outnumber humans by more than 500,000 to 1 in the UK (RSPB)

Spiders are keenly carnivorous. Seal 10,000 spiders in a room and you will eventually end up with one enormously fat spider
