Is it still owned by the Council, Mache?
Replied: 23rd Feb 2012 at 14:39
I was under the impression that it was lent/leased to someone who was in a better position to maintain it.
But don't qoute me on that.
I thought it was much further away from Wigan, too.

From Mache's link:
'then sold to Wigan Borough Council for their 15inch gauge system at Haigh Hall. Now renamed 'Katie' it is resident at the Windmill Animal Farm Miniature Railway, Burscough.'

Over to the experts - Do you think it could be Katie on the photo?

Where did you find out that Katie's poorly, Mache?
Replied: 23rd Feb 2012 at 15:33
Part one 15:13, Jo Anne. Katie is stripped down.
I've got Sian on my mind now.

Video uploaded - 29 Mar 2010 - awaiting a new boiler, funds depending, but hoping she was steaming again by next year. So she might be better by now.

The site isn't up-to-date, but has some interesting information about Sian (not Williams, Dostaf) and Katie.

Who said/typed owt about Sian Williams, missus?
Apologies, Mache.
Oh bugger!

'Austin Moss bought Katie and reassembled her as a static exhibit for the Windmill Farm gala in 2001. Sian and Katie pose for photographs. Subsequently Katie has been undergoing full restoration which will include a new boiler. If you would like to help, please contact Austin directly. (Geoff Holland)'
From Jo Anne's link.
So nothing to do with WMBC anymore.

Katie and Sian seem much cared about & cared for as well as can be afforded.

Hasn't 'Rachel' been re-named 'Wif Brogan OBE'?

I'd seen this earlier:
'Small shunting locomotive designed for a 10ΒΌ" gauge line in Dorset, however completed as a 15" loco. Now named W. Bragan M.B.E.'
Here

I've only seen Helen at Haigh Hall. It would be trickier to keep track, if it wasn't online.
Replied: 23rd Feb 2012 at 19:58
I've a feeling 'Haigh Hall' at Haigh Hall was originally named 'Gilbert Swift'.

'Haigh Hall' at Haigh Hall
"In the grounds of Haigh Hall is a miniature railway, established by the council's former erstwhile Director of Leisure Services, the splendidly-named Mr Gilbert Swift (now retired)." (h2g2)
Replied: 23rd Feb 2012 at 20:04
The locomotive, Jo Anne. I'm sure one of them was at one time named after Mr Swift.
Replied: 23rd Feb 2012 at 20:06
Thanks, Dostaf. I'd missed that the locomotive, Katie, was also called Haigh Hall, from Mache's original link:
Sister locomotive to 'Sian',and originally named 'Katie', 'Haigh Hall' 2-4-2 (Guest Engineering 14/1954) pauses at the signal box at Kingsway, on the CCLR, on 28-9-1996

J: Awreet, how many of you Incers have drained that water tank and said nowt?
T: every time when we went for a swim int cut
H: ... the train would be stopped in section for a while between Roundhouse & De Trafford to take on water.
(that's if someone hadn't drained the tank, that is). :-(
