Hi Margaret. Was this the Queens Arms, or the Queens Head, I can't remember. Shame it's a poor scan though.
hi john it's the queens head sorry for the quality of the photo but it is an old photo.the queens arms can be seen in the distance to the left of the photo, and it is still standing
Thanks Margaret Do you have anymore of the Newtown area, and is it OK if I download this picture please ?
Hello Margaret and Derek, thanks for posting these photos, they have brought back some wonderful memories of a lot of very happy hours spent in the Queen's Head. John and Maggie put some cracking concerts on in the back room - had some great nights in there. I can also remember one of the pub games which was in the tap room where you had to get an iron ring suspended on a rope onto a hook on the wall, well this must have been unique to the Queen's Head as I have never seen another since. Happy days then - absolute chaos around there now.
hi Cyril,it was a great pub, john and Maggie were well respected in the area ,like you say the bull ring was unique to the pub lots of people tried to master it but failed you just had to have the knack, mum died 2yrs ago ,
dad died in 1972 after leaving the pub, sorry Cyril can't recollect who you are ,knew so many faces but bad on names could you be Cyril Vincent sorry if I'm wrong.
Hello Margaret, my surname is Barnett, I used to meet up with Jimmy Houghton and the rest of the gang in the early seventies. Derek would probably remember me better as I worked on the council pest control and saw him a lot at Frog Lane. I did hear about John, and the last time I saw Maggie was a few years ago in Morrison's. I actually saw you and Derek in Asda last Wednesday and was going to say hello, I'd put something in my trolley and when I turned back around you had gone, I'll probably see you again sometime.
hello john, it is OK for you to down load photo. i wrote yesterday but it has not come through. i am so pleased that they have been of interest to you,i will have a look for more photo's
Am I correct in saying that St.Edwards RC Church was at the Saddle'.
