Used feeler Gauges when I was a tool maker, also when was setting the gap on the spark plugs.
And for setting tappets: I still have mine, and though they are about 60 years old, in better nick than those in photo.
I do not rebuild engines these days, but if I had to, they are the instrument I would use.
Also recall we used them for adjusting PO type 3000 relays, I think we used to set the unexcited gap to be 5 mills (ie 5 thou.)
Screwfix sell them, so I guess folk still do use them.
Used them daily as a pit leccy and occasionally setting valves and injectors on diesel engines on the railway
Yes still very much in use feeler Gauge, Tappets-cam followers and other settings Metric and Imperial. Also used in machinery and engineering settings.
The 'one thou' blade never used to last very long, did it. Far too delicate.
