  Competitors wringing out after a tug-o-war contest between the Stork Hotel, Marsh Green, and the Victoria Hotel, Up Holland, over the canal on Woodhouse Lane, Springfield, on Sunday 3rd of February 1980.
The teams raised £200 for Wrightington Hospital Children's Ward.

some rum lads there ,goes to show although the stork was much maligned when it came to raising money for charitable causes it had a reputation second to none

I used to go in the Stork around that time.
I recognise Richard Mac, Mick and Martin Lee and in the centre of the photo, John Stridgeon. I used to work with John in the building trade. He sure was a character!!

I assume they lost the tug o' war if they were wet? If so, I can only say the other team must have been big uns!
