I can see a Catterall -more than likely related to my ancestors. They originated in UpHolland as far back as 1709 and there were many of them. My grt Uncle William was also killed in July of the same year.

The Wigan Archives site lists many Catteralls who went off to the war -
http://archives.wigan.gov.uk/search/entities?q=Catterall&action=search&page=1 - the majority seem to have been colliers, and to have come from the Ince and Platt Bridge areas.

My Great Uncle, Peter Peet, was killed by a German sniper in 1916 in Belgium.He lived in Queen Street, Pemberton and had been a miner who left a wife and a young daughter.

Peter Peet was shot by a sniper - but at Passchendaele (which is in Belgium, near Ypres) on August 16th, 1917. You'll find further details and a pic of him on the site I've given above.

Thank you Rev.Got my dates mixed up.Also, he lived in Enfield Street, not Queen Street where he was brought up.
