i.e £1.70 in today's money. I remember when you could have a dog 'gassed' for 6d and that was in the 1950's. I'm afraid at that time it was a common thing to do for an unwanted dog or cat.
I think that in the 50s the corporation started to use electrocution. I have taken animals to be put down in that decade and the dogs were put in a kennel shaped box with a wet floor. A copper collar placed round the neck and wetted with a sponge. The result was an instant death
I calculate £1.13.9 in 1908 to be £177.18 in todays money.
As an animal lover this is as dark as it gets. Who is the "corporation"?[and can ya buy shares ?]
Gary. Numerous dark deeds were done, in the forties, and early fifties, in relation to unwanted puppies, or kittens. To some people it seemed a natural thing to do.
It wouldn't be appropriate to elaborate on the subject.
Gary. Relative to my previous comment. The general capabilities of peoples' finances, in itself had some culpability relating to what I related to.
Very few People had the financial means to have an animal spayed, or neutered, in the forties, nor early fifties.
Very few people were well off enough, to pay any veterinary bills, as Ron states, to use the Corporation facilities, at 6d a time, was beyond a lot of peoples financial capabilities, especially if several animals were involved.
I am not making excuses for what happened, except that you have to consider all of the circumstances that were prevalent at that particular period.
Am I missing something, or why is the receipt for a substantially (for the time) different amount from the invoice?
I guess some things are better in the 21st century Albert. But my gasbill has gone through the roof.
