The photograph is taken from Joan Hesketh's scrap book but doesn't include names. Joan is shown top row left and was the captain of the company for many years.

The photo is taken at the top of, as it then was, my Gandmother's garden in Chestnut Road.
My Auntie Joan (Hesketh) 1st Left back row had frequent groups of St Catherine's Guides in the garden doing badge work, cooking etc. She devoted most of her life to Guiding and I am sure there will be many girls who will have good memories of their time in Guiding. My sister, Marjorie (3rd left back row) is next to Betty Bolton, a longtime friend of my Auntie - both Auntie Joan and Betty are now in their upper 80's and my Auntie is still in the same house!

Just heard that miss Hesketh has sadly passed away. I was in her guides at St Catherine's during the 80's and lived every minute. I remember us going to her house cooking in her back garden and learning to build fires etc. she was one of the most kind hearted women I have ever met.

I was niece to Joan and raised in the same house with mum and Dad Jack and Evelyn Unsworth. Friday night meetings at St Catherines was my favorite, I learned a lot of useful things along the way mostly to be a good citizen and to be kind, I NEVER FORGOT! Boston Mass USA
