A work mate of my dad's told him that during the war he was captured by the Japaneese and as a POW worked on the Burma Railway. One day they were issued with new shovels, picks, etc. which had been recently captured by the Japaneese. He said they had labels on them BULLDOG TOOLS WIGAN.

Hello,Ron,my Gt Grandfather,William Henry Morris and my Grandfather John Morris both worked at Clarington Forge as far back as late 19th century. When I worked at a local garden centre in the sixties we sold Bulldog tools and the rep. was Bill Morris.I often wander if we were related.
Thanks for the message info,Mick.I think Bill Morris set up his own Company 'Morris Tools'.
I like how the ad says "can hear oncoming traffic"! lol! I'm not sure what the message is exactly.... does it mean that with this wheelbarrow you dont need to bother looking for traffic, just listen?? hmmmm....... fraught with danger methinks!!
When I worked at Clarington Forge in the 1960's, there was a 'Bulldog' spade that had been used by P.O.W.s on the Burma Railway. More than half the blade had been worn away, and that took some doing on an 'English Tools' made product.
