I'm sorry but this is stretching Impressionism to the limits.
This woman looks more like a duck to me and look at the size of her feet. I know this sounds very unkind but my little niece paints better than this and she is only seven.
When my daughter was about 4 years of age she painted something similar and teacher asked her what it was and she said it my dad washing up.
rediculous!!!!!!!!!!
Perhaps Rolf Harris is more up your street. Isherwood is a true son of Wigan and we should be proud. His paintings now sell for lots of money and quite rightly so.
I'm not knocking Isherwood because he's a son of Wigan,....we're ALL sons and daughters of Wigan on here.... but if I had an Isherwood,or a Theodore Major for that matter, I would sell it and buy a painting that I knew I was holding the right way up. I went to Leigh Art-group's exhibition with my neighbour last week, and the standard of some of the paintings was breathtaking. There is a lot of talent in Wigan but this isn't it.
We are all entitled to an opinion but unfortunately some of us are prone to giving them on subjects where our knowledge is severely lacking. I suppose Picasso is similarly talentless judging by some of the comments on here.Sometimes it is better to maintain a dignified silence than to prove to the world what a bunch of Philistines we all are.
..... waits for the pathetic line "I may not be an expert but I know what I like".
Pathetic springs to mind...
A old and greatly valued friend of mine is an Isherwood fan, owns a couple of his paintings and actually knew the man, but we each respect the other's opinion . I will diversify only slightly on the expected "pathetic line".....I may not be an expert but I recognise an explosion in a jam-factory when I see one" And so does most of Wigan.
I hadn't realised this board was frequented by such discerning, cultured and well informed people. Whilst we are on a roll, why doesn't someone talk me through "A Brief History of Time" by Stephen Hawking. No doubt many contributors to this thread could put him straight and tell him that the plot was crap and wasn't half as exciting as Coronation Street.
PS My final word on the subject: Monet has never been my favourite artist but I would never dream of saying that his work was crap or that he should be painting toilet doors. It would show a marked lack of class, culture and intelligence - who the hell do some of you think you are to criticise and ridicule a great Wiganer whose talent has been recognised world-wide (except in Wigan)?
Can you tell what it is yet?
Oh, shut up!
Shouldn't this have been titled "Blue Scrawls in Wigan" ?
This painting belongs in the Isherwood collection!
Isherwood Skip Hire, Cemetry Rd, Ince.
Every one seems to be having a go at Isherwood.but have you seen the rubbish Damian Hurst puts out and he's paintings
are worth millions
Chronic in the extreme. I wonder if Isherwood was on some sort of 'trip' when he scrawled those diabolical paintings?
Reading all the comments on the Isherwood paintings has given me a good giggle....Look at Wigan World it's good for your health ! ....... I agree with Edward, Isherwood was probably on a 'trip' with this one & must have hated Mrs Whitehouse but I quite like the Parish Church painting, that said most modern art leaves me cold....anyone been to the New Tate ????
Can ya tell what it is yet ???????????????
I think most of the work of James Lawrence Isherwood is a very good presentation of abstract/ impressionist art. I prefer it to Theodore Major.
I would buy one but they are now beyond my means. We have none on public display in Wigan as far as I know.
